Workshops
BCT offers a range of workshops ranging from acting to producing throughout the year. All BCT members may attend for free and these are open to non-members of BCT for a nominal entry fee, which makes them a great way to find out more if you’re thinking about joining us.
Membership
Whether you love being on stage, behind the scenes or in the audience, BCT is for you. English doesn’t have to be your first language, and you’re welcome whatever your level of experience. As a member you’re encouraged to take part in BCT shows and activities however you like, even if that’s just to meet new friends.
Online Play Reading: The Exonerated
Online Play Reading: The Exonerated
Tuesday August. 16th at 7:30pm (7:15pm sign in)
Bangkok Community Theatre is continuing their evening online play reading sessions in 2022. Since BCT is also working to get back to live productions, we will try to hold two online play readings each month rather than 4 as we did in the past. Each time we choose a new script and share it with the participants in advance. Then we get together and read the play aloud on zoom, regularly switching up the roles so that everyone gets a chance to read, if they wish. Some BCT friends don’t want to read; they just like to listen. That’s okay, too.
ABOUT THE PLAY
The Exonerated is a 2000 play by Jessica Blank and Erik Jensen that debuted Off-Broadway in October 2000 at 45 Bleecker Theater and ran for over 600 performances. It won numerous awards including the Lucille Lortel Award for Unique Theatrical Experience, the Drama Desk Award for Unique Theatrical Experience, and the Outer Critics Circle Award for Outstanding Off-Broadway Play. It was adapted into a 2005 film by the same name. The work combines first-person narrative with legal records to tell the stories of six wrongfully convicted inmates: Delbert Tibbs, Kerry Max Cook, Gary Gauger, David Keaton, Robert Earl Hayes and Sunny Jacobs, and their paths to freedom. The production is performed as an anthology by ten actors seated behind music stands. Their accounts of the freed convicts emphasize their lives after being sentenced to death, including much of the legal proceedings that gained their exoneration.
Please confirm ASAP whether you will join (and if you want to read or not) so that we can send you both the link to the room and the link to download the script. Knowing attendance numbers makes it much easier to divide the parts so please RSVP soon. Remember to log in by 7:15 at the latest so that we can assign parts and start reading at 7:30pm at the latest. If possible, please also keep your camera on and stay for the entire reading to show your support for the work and all the readers.
Note: BCT Online Play Readings are for Adults and Students age 16+ unless otherwise specified. If you are not already a BCT member, please consider joining to help support the society. Email: membership@ bangkokcommunitytheatre.com for details.
