The first category in this year’s BOB Awards is… Props to You!

There are 7 nominations in this category and the first five all come from BCT’s weekly online play readings.

Paul Robere – The Circle is an early 20th century comedy written by Somerset Maugham which BCT read online as part of our weekly readings. Paul Robere was playing a rather buffoonish role and his character talked about his teeth coming out. So Paul obligingly took out his own teeth, on camera, Twice!! Upstaging absolutely everyone!

Paul Robere – And once again, Paul Robere for his antics during an online reading of Thornton Wilder’s comedy The Matchmaker. The stage directions indicated that Paul’s character was sitting back in a chair being shaved by a barber, so Paul staged the full deal on camera with a face full of shaving cream and an extra (presumably his long-suffering wife Maew) whose disembodied arm emerged from the green screen background repeatedly to give him a clean shave!

Bonnie Zellerbach – When reading the role of The Visitor (aka Elvis) in Steve Martin’s Picasso at the Lapin Agile, Bonnie went all-out with her costume and in a surprise entrance, replicated the King of Rock’s trademark styling with an on-point wig and jacket combo – not to mention a surprisingly good Elvis drawl!

Samantha Thompson – Whose commitment to transformation has seen her turn up to countless online play readings sporting just as many character-inspired looks. We will not list them because we would be here all night. Literally, at every reading Sam has come up with something new!

All 13 readers for Scrooge, The Panto! – Our holiday play reading of Scrooge, The Panto in 2021 featured ample opportunities for antics with costumes and properties – and our readers certainly didn’t disappoint!

Jacob Nyenhuis – Who, when heading the art department for BCT’s short film GO!, took it on himself to get his hands dirty as the designated scatology consultant – or in layman’s terms, the guy who was responsible for handling the fake (we hope?) poop to dress the set for the film’s climax.

Our last nomination goes to the 33 volunteers in the BCT Shorts Volume 3 – Covid Couples’ final scene. To create an even larger sea of people for this final scene, volunteers were asked to disguise themselves so that their image could be used more than once. They came up with some truly outrageous costumes!!

The winner will be announced on the private members Facebook page!
