In the final category of this year’s BOB Awards. . .
Lucky number six! This is our last category of winners from the 2020 and 2021 calendar years.
Our first nomination in this furry category is a twofer: Sama Ratnaike & Betsy Palmerston. Back One of our most memorable and funny online play readings in 2021 was A.R. Gurney’s Sylvia. For those of you unfamiliar with the script, the title character is a dog but it is written to be played by a young woman with a distinctly canine delivery. Sam and Betsy shared the role on the night and brought the house down. Woof woof!
Our second nominee is Anshika Chauhan who performed in BCT Shorts Volume 2: the Zoom Edition in WYWH. During tech run for WYWH, Anshika’s little dachshund was desperate for some attention, but couldn’t jump up to get on the bed. Off camera all you hear is a little but regular “woof” until Anshika expertly finds a moment to go down to grab the little guy and give him the attention he so desperately seeks, all while filming and never missing a cue.
Our third nominee is Sama Ratnaike once again for cat wrangling and foster puppy wrangling during every online play reading. A reading without a feline backside presented to the screen was an oddity!!
Our fourth nominee is Claudia Liu. The heated banter between Dan O’Shea and Claudia Liu’s on screen characters in BCT Shorts Volume 3: Money Talks Too Loud spilled over into real life with Dan photoshopping a bleating calf head onto pictures of Claudia, Mary Anne & Bonnie; however, not to be outdone, Claudia had the final word by turning Dan into a pig. Oink!
Our penultimate nominee is Betsy Palmer once again who, like the true professional she is, did not allow the howling siberian husky or the flock of noisy birds outside the house throw her off while filming her performance as the AI in BCT Shorts Volume 3 production of Hey, Siri!
Our last nomination goes to Bonnie Zellerbach for working as an animal wrangler during that last minute shoot of Hey, Siri! at her house. The internet was strong but so were the calls of the birds and the dogs outside. Bonnie spent that last couple of takes outside as a human scarecrow waving the birds away to keep the noise down for the audio track.
