Bangkok Community Theatre holds regular weekday evening online play readings at 7:30pm. Each week we choose a new script and share it with the participants in advance.
Then we get together and read the play aloud on zoom, regularly switching up the roles so that everyone gets a chance to read, if they wish. Some BCT friends don’t want to read; they just like to listen. That’s okay, too.
These play readings are open to anyone who wants to join! Just RSVP@bangkokcommunitytheatre.com to get the link. It’s free and a great way to meet some other people who enjoy live theatre. Please join us; tell your friends.
On Tuesday, September 1st, 2020 at 7:30pm, please join us to read Noel Coward’s delightful comedy “Present Laughter”
ABOUT THE PLAY:
Noël Coward wrote Present Laughter as he approached his fortieth birthday. Written in 1939 and first performed in 1942, the original run featured Noël Coward in the lead role.
Over the past seventy years, the play has been performed worldwide, enjoying numerous revivals in Europe and North America, including a US tour in 1958 with Coward reprising his role. In subsequent productions, some of the many actors to play Garry have included Albert Finney, Peter O’Toole and Ian McKellen.
SYNOPSIS:
At the center of his own universe sits matinee idol Garry Essendine. While Garry struggles to plan his upcoming trip to Africa, his elegant London flat is invaded by a love struck ingenue, an adulterous producer and a married seductress, not to mention Garry’s estranged wife and a crazed young playwright. Just before Garry escapes, the full extent of his misdemeanors is discovered and all hell breaks loose.
