AUDITION NOTICE

Bangkok Community Theatre is holding auditions for William Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night.

We are casting 10 principal roles (3f/7m) and 4-6  ensemble members.

*Performances will be the last weekend of May and the first weekend of June.

Viola has been separated from her brother in a shipwreck. She (disguised as a boy) begins working for and subsequently falls in love with Duke Orsino, who in turn is in love with the Countess Olivia. Upon meeting Viola, Countess Olivia falls in love with her, thinking she is a man. Olivia also has other suitors, namely Malvolio and the foppish Sir Andrew. When Sebastian, Viola’s twin brother, joins the fray, confusion is sown and hilarity ensues. This show has music, drunks, idiots, separated twins, and even a fool.  It has a variety of themes within its content. Desire vs. love, melancholy, madness, deception, and gender/sexual identity are all touched upon.

Set in the fictional land of Illyria, Twelfth Night lends itself to modern reinvention, new settings, and new eras. The Bangkok Community Theatre production set in the 17th century in a wind-blown and  dilapidated island town complete with pirates, soldiers, and sailors. The set will be nautically themed with much of it being made out of the remnants of ships.

Auditionees will be asked to try a couple scenes with script in hand with a few other people. You may be asked to read a monologue or try a new character. Please do not memorize the audition scenes.

Auditions will be held at Bistro 33

Sunday, February 10th from 2-6
